Articulation25 Jan 2016
On Friday 22nd January a group of sixteen students went with Ms. Kirby (Art teacher) to the Clonmel museum. There they were greeted by a representative of Lismore Arts centre, who gave them an informed talk and discussion on artwork, artefacts and how to compete in ‘Articulation’ an Art public speaking competition run by the Lismore Arts centre. Later in the morning the girls were divided in groups of four where they had to work together to give a five minute presentation on a piece looked at in brief earlier in the morning. The groups did amazingly well considering the works being discussed were relatively unknown to them. Their analysis and discussion of the visual qualities and techniques used to make these pieces was very informed and accurate. It was fascinating to hear how the students responded to the works and explained this during their presentation. The school heats will run on an individual basis in probably March. Each participant should have a powerpoint presentation on a chosen piece of artwork/architecture/artefact. They should refer to their powerpoint while speaking on their chosen topic for between five to ten minutes.
This competition is a new venture for the Loreto Clonmel but it is well established in other schools in Cork, Waterford and Kilkenny. Here’s hoping the students involved will develop and extend their understanding of Art and enhance their public speaking skills.
