All Ireland U19 Basketball Playoffs
On Jan 12th,the Loreto Senior Basketball Team took part in the All Ireland U 19 Play Offs. To get to this stage the Team had to first qualify from their pool, then they played in the Regional Semi Final beating FCJ Bunclody, a team that had beaten them last season. In the Regional Final they played Bagnelstown in a very tough match, playing against a Team with an Irish International player. They played great but the other Team were just that bit too strong. Having reached this stage they qualified for the All Ireland Play Offs. We hosted the matches and the Teams in our group came from Salerno, Salthill, Co. Galway and Rathmore Grammer Belfast.
In the first match Loreto were up against Salerno and again this Team had an Irish International player, this was a super game, Salerno 53 Loreto 40, in the Second game of the day Salerno beat Rathmore 37 31, so the last game was between Loreto and Rathmore, in this match hard work and determination paid off and Loreto won 56 34.
This was an emotional end to the season for the Leaving Cert Students who were on the Team, their dedication to Basketball over the 6 years was exemplary and I am delighted they won their last match . We wish them the best of luck in the future.
