East Munster Track & Field
This year’s championship was held in Templemore Athletic Club. The conditions for this meeting were near perfect and this added to what was a very successful day for the Loreto girls. We had 19 athletes taking part in a range of events. In the minor category,Gillian Hughes finished 2nd in the 800m and Jess Caron finished 3rd in the shot. In the junior, Veerle Van der Wal finished 2nd in both the javelin and the long jump. Sophie Boyle also performed very well with a 3rd place finish in the long jump. The girls in the intermediate grade also had a successful day. Emma Moore finished in 2nd in the 100m, Ava Fennessey won the 800m and Niamh Martin finished 3rd in the 1500m. Our relay team of Ava Fennessey, Brid Moynihan, Niamh Martin and Emma Moore also performed brilliantly to finish 2nd. All of the girls represented the school excellently in all events, with many now going on to represent the school in the Munster Championships in CIT at the end of May.

Inter-Loreto Track & Field

On Wednesday the 27th of April, the Inter-Loreto track & field championships took place in Morton stadium in Santry. Loreto had athletes from 1st to 5th year participating in a range of track and field events. The girls performed well in all their events against athletes from Loreto schools across Ireland. Ava Fennessey finished 2nd in both the 400m and Long Jump. Both medals were won against girls from the senior grade, which was a great achievement as she is from 2nd year. Our relay teams also performed well, finishing 6th out of the 19 schools in the junior & senior grade. Other notable performances were recorded by Caoimhe Mulcahy, who came 4thafter a finish line photo in the 300m, and Jess Caron who finished 4th in the shot put. Veerle Van der Wal also finished 4th in the long jump. The girls attention now turns to the East Munster Championships in Templemore next week. A big thank you must go to Loreto Balbriggan who hosted a very well run event on the day.
Thanks also to Mr. Kehir and Ms. Barlow who accompanied the girls on the day

But the girls showed great spirit throughout the day and will hopefully return with the same next year.
