Concern Debating 2017/18

Once again Concern Debates has come back to Loreto Secondary School.  This year, nine brave girls signed up for the task of taking on four other schools in the region, alongside their sixth year mentors; Serena and Alia.  Our first debate took place on Thursday 10th  October. We played host to  CBS Kilkenny.  The topic was ‘To end hunger, the world must embrace GMOs’.  Our captain on the night was the charming Abby and following her confident opening speech was Aliya, Iza and Sinead.  The motion was carried and we were victorious over  CBS .  It was a tremendous results for our opening debate.

Our second debate was at home again against  CBS Thurles.  The motion on the night was ‘For women to access leadership position, gender quotas must be implemented’.  Although our four ladies debated courageously we were unsuccessful against last year’s semi-finalists.  On the night the team was led by  captain Iza(a force to be reckoned with!), and team members Sinead, Abby and Courtney. Aliya  took charge of the debate as chairperson and Wedaad as timekeeeper.  A special thanks to all the family members and friends who attended on the night.  Their support was greatly appreciated as always.  Thanks also to Bonyan, Cliodhna, Abigail and Isha for their work in preparation for the debate.
