Mrs. Slattery Retires
02 Jun 2014Mrs. Sheila Slattery began her teaching career over 34 years ago. A native of Doon, Co. Tipperary
she taught firstly in Loreto Secondary School Balbriggan for seven years before returning to her
native county upon her marriage to Tom. After spending some years at home with her three young
children, Sheila decided to return to the classroom, beginning her twenty seven years’ teaching
in our school. She has been a dedicated, caring and inspirational teacher of Maths and English.
Her love for her subjects has always been evident in her enthusiasm in the classroom. Her
outstanding mathematical ability is something that is greatly admired by her students and her
colleagues. Sheila loved to explore different methods of solving mathematical problems and always
encouraged her students to do likewise. In her responsibility for the compilation of the school
timetable each year, it is a testament to her popularity that she never lost a friend in the staffroom!
Her constant good humour, helpfulness and friendliness will be sorely missed by all in Loreto. We
wish Sheila health and happiness in her retirement and in the words of her former pupils:
“Hail Slatts, Queen of maths”!
