National Flag Presentation Ceremony

On Monday 7th March Shania Dowling, Eve Keating, Muireann Tobin and Jade Kiely travelled to Croke Park accompanied by Ms Ní Cheallacháin for the National Flag Post-Primary Presentation Ceremony.  Over 6,000 guests were present with representatives from schools from up and down the country as part of the 1916 Rising commemorative celebrations. Ryan Tubridy presented the ceremony and the girls were treated to a rousing speech by President Michael D Higgins. He referred to the ‘daring expression of creativity’ that was the 1916 Rising and encouraged the students to not shy away from their own ideas and creativity going into the future. He described the Irish Tricolour as the single most important possession of this country as a nominated student from each school was presented with the Irish Tricolour.

The Irish Tricolour: The white colour symbolises peace between the Nationalist Catholics (green) and Protestant Unionists (orange) in Ireland.
