​Our Curriculum

​The school’s fundamental aim is to provide excellence in education.  It endeavours to do so through the D.E.S. programme.  This is also underpinned by the school’s Mission Statement which affirms our commitment to provide the opportunity for students to grow spiritually, emotionally, socially, creatively and physically in a healthy environment.
Picture
First Year
Examination subjects:
Irish, English, Maths, History, Geography and Science.
After October Midterm break from the following subjects three subjects are chosen and studied for Junior Cert.: Business Studies, French, Graphics, German, Home Economics,  Music and Visual Art.
Non Examination subjects:
Physical Education (P.E.), Social Personal and Health Education (S.P.H.E.), Religious Education, Civic Social and Political Education (C.S.P.E.) and Information Technology (IT).


Second Year and Third Year
Examination subjects:
Irish, English, Maths, History, Geography and Science and students also study the three subjects chosen after Midterm in First Year.
Non Examination subjects:
Physical Education (P.E.), Social Personal and Health Education (S.P.H.E.), Religious Education, Civic Social and Political Education (C.S.P.E.) and in second year only Information Technology (IT).


Transition Year
Irish, English, French, German, Spanish, Mathematics, Physics/Chemistry, Biology, Social & Cultural Studies, Music Appreciation, Business Studies, Information Technology (IT), Religious Education, Physical Education (P.E.), Politics and Society, Life Skills, Career Guidance, Cookery, Art Appreciation, Agricultural Science, Computer Science, Examinable P.E., Public Speaking, Debating, Work Experience, Community Service, Visiting Speakers, Outdoor Pursuits, Field Trips.


Fifth Year
Examination subjects:
All students study Irish, English, and Maths.
An additional four subjects are chosen from the following: Accounting, Art, Business, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, French, Geography, German, History, Home Economics (Scientific and Social), Music and Physics.
Non Examination subjects:
Physical Education (P.E.), Social Personal and Health Education (S.P.H.E.), Career Guidance and Religious Education.


Sixth Year or Leaving Cert
Examination subjects: Students study the seven subjects chosen in Fifth Year.
Non Examination subjects:
Physical Education (P.E.), Social Personal and Health Education (S.P.H.E.), Career Guidance and Religious Education.


Leaving Cert. Vocational Programme (L.C.V.P.): Students in the Senior Cycle may avail of this programme. It comprises the traditional Leaving Cert. with two additional Link Modules (a) Enterprise Education, (b) Preparation for the World of Work.
