Great swimming from all the Loreto girls at the Senior Munster Swimming Championships on October 21st. Every girl had PB swim times and the school was one of the top overall with two individual medals (a Gold and Silver), and two team relay medals (a Gold and Silver). They significantly over-performed versus their incoming placings. Some specific achievements were: Aislinn finished 7th in the U16 backstroke final. Marguerite finished fourth in the U14 Butterfly Final. Laura won Gold in the U16 Freestyle final and Silver in the U16 Backstroke final. The most amazing results were in the relays where our U16 girls won Gold in the Freestyle final and Silver in the Medley final. The relay team have qualified for the National schools finals in the New Year, as has Laura. A great day all round!!
Swimming
On Thursday November 19th, we travelled to the NAC in Dublin to compete in the Inter-Loreto Swimming Gala. The girls were excellent, and each did the school proud in their individual events. Five of the nine swimmers advanced to the finals, three of whom came away with medals. Ellen Buckley won gold in the U-14 Butterfly; Amy Fitzpatrick won gold in the U-16 backstroke; and Beth Fitzpatrick won silver in the O-16 freestyle. The Spirit Team were very unlucky this year not to come away with the Joly award. They sang and danced throughout the entire Gala and even had to be quietened at one point so the announcer could be heard. No doubt, they will succeed next year.
